Tanker Surfing
Monday, September 04, 2006 by Stephen
Mark took Ray and me out to the Galveston Bay to try out tanker surfing. This was the first time—the test run—so Ray kept trying until he succeeded since he owned the surfboard and had the most experience surfing. Mark and I will get to try next time.
The keys to tanker surfing are:
Get in a long stretch of shallow water next to a busy shipping channel.
Wait for a well-laden super tanker.
Catch a wave on the inside edge of the wake.
Be aware that the wake moves in the same direction as the ship as you figure out where to go to get in front of it.
We went
here, but
this looks good, too.
